Lions Development Pathway 14+ Tri-Series

About

The Lions Development Programme is a programme based around the Community Game, giving those an opportunity to represent the Saints and train with some of our pathway coaches.

As every year, we will be playing against Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves in a tri-series, with a great opportunity to represent the Saints and play in that famous Red Vee!

With training taken by coaches within our pathways at Saints, our Under 14’s LDP is also a great way to improve your game and learn new skills to take back into your Community games!

(Our Under 14’s LDP Tri-Series is for those who don’t have a Rugby League Scholarship)

Not being on a scholarship does not mean a player’s journey ends. The LDP exists to ensure talented, hardworking players still have access to quality coaching and representative opportunities.

What Does the Programme Involve?

  • Coaching & Development training Sessions

  • Represent Saints in the Tri-Series games against Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves

Excel Development Programme – Progression Opportunity

As part of the Lions Development Programme, players in attendance may also be identified for progression into the Excel Development Programme.

Our Excel programme is a high-quality development programme for players outside of the traditional scholarship system. It offers selected players the chance to train, learn, and grow with the support of professional coaches from St Helens R.F.C. Players on the Excel programme continue to play for their School and Community Club, maintaining a core connection to Community Rugby League.

In recent seasons, we have seen multiple players progress from the Tri series and Excel Programmes to:

  • Earn scholarships with St Helens RLFC or other profesional clubs

  • Be selected to represent England community lions.

While progression is never guaranteed, the programme has a strong track record of helping late developers and non-scholarship players continue their journey in the game.
